Ruidoso Downs Race Track has announced that its signature Quarter Horse racing series and several related events will move to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, beginning in 2027.
The move follows two seasons in which racing traditionally held at Ruidoso Downs was relocated to The Downs at Albuquerque. The 2026 Ruidoso Downs race meet continues in Albuquerque through Labor Day, September 7.
What Is Moving to Lone Star Park in 2027?
According to Ruidoso Downs, the move to Lone Star Park will include the Quarter Horse Racing Triple Crown Series and its signature races, including the Ruidoso Futurity, Rainbow Futurity, and All American Futurity.
The All American Super Select Sale and Ruidoso Downs Hall of Fame activities will also move to Lone Star Park in 2027.
For generations, these events have been closely associated with Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs Race Track, forming an important part of the region’s summer traditions and its history within the Quarter Horse racing industry.
What About the 2026 Racing Season?
The announcement does not change the current 2026 racing schedule.
Live racing traditionally held at Ruidoso Downs is taking place at The Downs Race Track & Casino in Albuquerque for the 2026 season. The meet continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 7, with the All American Futurity scheduled as the season’s signature finale.
Visitors planning to attend live racing in 2026 should travel to Albuquerque for race-day events.
Horse sales scheduled in Ruidoso for 2026 also remain in place, including the All American Select Sale at the Ruidoso Downs Horse Sales Pavilion on September 4–5.
Ruidoso’s Quarter Horse Racing Legacy
Ruidoso has played an important role in American Quarter Horse racing for decades, and the All American Futurity in particular has become closely identified with the community.
First contested at Ruidoso Downs in 1959, the All American Futurity grew into one of the sport’s most prestigious races and a Labor Day tradition that brought generations of owners, breeders, trainers, jockeys, racing fans, and visitors to the Ruidoso area.
That history remains part of Ruidoso’s story even as the location of the racing events changes.
