Accessible tourism in Ruidoso is an ongoing endeavor to ensure that visitor experiences and services are accessible to all people including those traveling with children, people with disabilities, as well as seniors.
Facilities for all
From pools to parking facilities, toilets to TVs, spas to ski slopes, having adapted and inclusive facilities make all the difference between an okay vacation and a wonderfully welcoming one. Inclusive outdoor recreation
Whether it’s a physical disability or a visual impairment, outdoor recreation doesn’t have to be off-limits. There are more than 200-miles of trails in Lincoln National Forest that comply with Trails Accessibility Standards. While some of these trails are paved, many have firm, stable surfaces, but are not paved. Trail width is also generally 36-inches wide. Many Forest Service campsites are also accessible to visitors of any ability.
Accessible attractions and activities
The most cared for sidewalks and pedestrian surfaces in the village are located within Ruidoso public parks, the Links Trail, and the Midtown shopping district with newly reconfigured sidewalks (March 2021) and curb cuts present at nearly all intersections. Users of wheelchairs, baby strollers, and those who have difficulty walking should not have trouble getting around these areas, though winter weather and snowfall present additional challenges. Designated disabled parking spaces for people who are in possession of a disability ID are available in public and private parking lots.
