Lance and Jazmin Roe of Backcountry Attitudes: Sharing the Mountains They Call Home

As Ruidoso natives, Lance and Jazmin Roe grew up exploring the mountains that surround the village. The trails, forests, and lakes of the Lincoln National Forest weren’t attractions to them—they were simply part of everyday life.

Growing up in this scenic and secluded corner of the southern Rockies, they never took for granted the playground nature had given them. The mountains were where they spent time with family and friends, where they explored, learned, and developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

When they started Backcountry Attitudes, it began small—a little boat shop at Grindstone Lake.

But they had bigger dreams.

They wanted to share these mountains with everyone. They wanted to guide visitors through the hidden corners of the Lincoln National Forest that most tourists never see.

The places beyond the overlooks and well-traveled roads. The places you only discover after years of exploring the mountains yourself.

They wanted people to unplug. To trade their screens for incredible views. To experience the kind of joy that comes from being immersed in nature with family and friends.

Over time, that vision became the foundation of Backcountry Attitudes.

Today, they spend their days leading visitors along rocky trails by OHV, sharing landscapes that have been part of their lives since childhood. Along the way, they introduce guests to mountain views, forest trails, and hidden places that many travelers would never find on their own.

The scenery is certainly part of the experience, but for Lance and Jazmin, it has always been about something more.

It’s about helping people slow down and reconnect with the people around them. Families share adventures together. Friends create new memories. Visitors discover a side of Ruidoso that exists beyond the familiar attractions and busy schedules of everyday life.

The mountains have given Lance and Jazmin a lifetime of memories, and through Backcountry Attitudes, they have found a way to share that experience with others.

Today, they spend their days sharing the mountains they have loved all their lives, guiding visitors through forests, overlooks, and backcountry trails that many travelers never see.

For them, the reward is simple: helping others experience the same connection to these mountains that first inspired them.

And sometimes, that means introducing someone to the kind of secret spot you only know about if you grew up here.
