Whether you’re looking for carbohydrates before a big day on the trails, protein after the finish, lighter options between activities, or simply a great local meal, Ruidoso’s restaurant community is ready to welcome you.

Created with The Healthy Voyager

Eat Like an Athlete was developed with wellness and travel expert Carolyn Scott-Hamilton, founder of The Healthy Voyager, to help visitors navigate dining during major endurance events in Ruidoso.

Working with participating local restaurants, the program highlights menu choices and dining experiences that support active days at elevation while introducing athletes and visitors to some of Ruidoso’s locally loved places to eat.

The idea is simple: fuel well, recover well, and experience Ruidoso while you’re here.

Fueling at Elevation

Ruidoso sits at approximately 6,900 feet above sea level, making hydration, recovery, rest, and balanced nutrition especially important during active days in the mountains.

During championship week:

  • Hydrate consistently throughout the day.

  • Give yourself time to adjust to the elevation.

  • Plan meals and snacks around training and race schedules.

  • Prioritize recovery food and fluids after strenuous activity.

  • Balance championship-week excitement with adequate rest.

More Than Race Fuel

Eat Like an Athlete is also an invitation to experience Ruidoso through its local restaurants.

Between training sessions, races, celebrations, and outdoor adventures, take time to explore the village, meet the people behind its businesses, and enjoy the mountain community welcoming athletes from around the world.
