Join the Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club for a leisurely fall hike at Valley of Fires Recreation Area, west of Carrizozo, exploring one of the youngest lava flows in the continental United States.
The group will hike the Kipuka and Nature trails and visit the overlook while learning about the history and geology of the lava flow and the wildlife found in this distinctive volcanic landscape.

Distance: A little less than 3 miles
Difficulty: Easy, with minimal elevation gain
Group Size: Maximum 10 participants
Age Requirement: Participants must be 18 or older
Dogs: No dogs permitted
Cool-weather clothing and supportive footwear are recommended.
Meeting Location
Meet at the first group shelter on the right after the Valley of Fires entrance/pay station, approximately four miles west of the Highways 54/380 intersection on Highway 380.
