Discover the Magic of White Sands under Moonlight

On nights when the moon is full, expect to see your shadow because the moonlight will reflect off the sand for quite a bright night. NPS Photo

Experience the luminous beauty of the gypsum dunes beneath a rising full moon during Full Moon Nights at White Sands National Park. These popular evening programs celebrate the cultural heritage of Southern New Mexico and Northern Mexico alongside the park’s remarkable natural resources.

Enjoy live music, ranger-led programs, and special guest presenters and artists in the park’s outdoor amphitheater (Evening Program Area), located seven miles from the fee station along Dunes Drive. Each program lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and begins at the times listed below. Seating is not provided—bring camp chairs, blankets, and coolers to relax on the surrounding dunes.

Even when no formal program is scheduled, the park extends its hours so visitors can experience the full moon on their own.
