Step into the history of the American West during this special Lincoln Lecture Series presentation at the historic San Juan Bautista Church in Lincoln.
Historian Prince G. McKenzie explores the development of two of the most iconic firearms of the frontier—the Colt Frontier Six Shooter and the Winchester Model 1873. Learn how these tools became indispensable to farmers, ranchers, cowboys, lawmen, miners, railroad workers, settlers, and outlaws, and why historians have often referred to them as “the guns that won the West.”
Rather than focusing on legend alone, McKenzie provides historical context for how these firearms evolved alongside westward expansion and shaped daily life across the American frontier. The presentation offers insight into their design, widespread use, and lasting place in Western history.
Held in the beautifully preserved San Juan Bautista Church, this engaging lecture is part of the annual Old Lincoln Days celebration and offers visitors an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the people, technology, and events that defined the frontier era.
