Come and take a walking tour of the old Fort Stanton cemetery with Interpretive Ranger Javier, who will talk about the history of cemeteries and some of the history of the local citizens buried there from the 1850s to the 1970s. Learn about a World War I veteran, the youngest person buried, and the possible resting places of two individuals who fought in the Lincoln County War. Hats, water bottles, and hiking sticks are recommended for the 1-mile round-trip.
At 1 p.m., Conservation Area Manager Warren Kasper will give a presentation about the National Conservation Lands system, which was designated by Congress and the President to conserve special features, including the Fort Stanton - Snowy River Cave National Conservation Area. Kasper will discuss the history of the conservation area, recreational opportunities, and scientific and educational activities that are underway on and under the conservation area.
