2025 Ruidoso Downs Horse Racing Update: Flood Impacts & Event Relocations
Due to significant flood damage sustained on July 8, 2025, live horse racing at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack has been suspended for the season. Cleanup is underway after more than ten feet of water inundated the infield, damaging essential infrastructure. While no horses were harmed, the facility is unable to host races this summer.
As a result, the All American Futurity, Derby, and Oaks trials and finals have been relocated to Albuquerque Downs.
Trials: August 4–6, 2025
Finals: Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2025
The day’s stakes races will include the All American Futurity, Derby, Oaks, Invitational, and Juvenile.
Despite the suspension of live racing, Ruidoso Downs will continue to host two major horse sales at the Sales Pavilion:
New Mexico Breed Sale: August 8–9
All American Select Sale: August 29–30
Other scheduled events will be evaluated individually. The Casey Donahew concert (July 26) and Hall of Fame Banquet (August 7) will proceed as planned.
Visitors can still enjoy year-round simulcast racing at The Racebook, located inside Ruidoso Downs Racetrack & Casino, with food, drinks, and a comfortable viewing atmosphere.
