Winter Activities
The downhill rush of skiing, snowboarding and tubing in Ruidoso comes with an enchanting boot scootin' beat. From Thanksgiving through Easter Ruidoso packs away the summer racing silks and turns to winter sports on the slopes of nearby Ski Apache and the tubing runs of Winter Park Recreational Area.

If you’ve never been tubing, the only skill required is hanging on for the rush. Tubing is a huge draw families for its baseline accent on thrill without skill (no classes, equipment or the right clothes needed). To a skier it may seem like a cheap thrill, but to a family it’s an exhausting joy ride.
Twelve miles up Ski Run Road is Ski Apache, operated by the Mescalero Apache Tribe. Chances are that you won’t need chains, but bring them if you’ve got them. The resort features the second largest lift capacity in New Mexico (including a non-stop gondola to the top of the mountain), elevating the skier/snowboarder to slopes manicured for all talents, from bunny to black diamond. Ski Apache has extreme snow-making capabilities from top to bottom.
