Wild Turkey

Best Areas
Merriam's turkey roost sites are typically found just below ridgelines on east and north slopes. Summer roosts are more transitory depending upon the availability of suitable roost trees. Commmon trees include ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, white fir, limber pine, western white pine, cottonwoods, large oaks and pinon pine.
Wild Turkeys
The Merriam's Turkey will traditionally use the same winter roost areas because during colder onths flocks tend to join together. Therfore, winter roost areas must be larg, dense clumps of 8-12 trees or more, and consistent from year to year. In the spring, flocks break up into smaller groups for the breeding season.
